It is a healthier alternative compared to juices and soft drinks, that exceed our daily recommended sugar intake. The amount of vitamins you gain really depends on they type of ingredients you put in the smoothie. I personally prefer the spinach and apple blend. Most fruits and vegetables are, however, high in vitamin A and C. Smoothies also help you consume a lot of healthy ingredients without even realizing it.
Smoothies are a much better option than breakfast juices. When you extract juice many minerals can be lost from the original fruit, but when you make a smoothie you use the whole fruit so no vitamins or minerals are lost. Green smoothies are also a cheap and more natural alternative to multivitamins bought at the store.They are quick and easy to make, only needing a blender and pitcher if you want to store it.
If you're looking for a lasting source of energy a green smoothie will satisfy your needs. Fruits contain sugars so they only provide you with a short supply of energy, but when mixed with leafy green vegetables, balance the sugar content. They can even be a meal alternative for those in a rush. they will make you feel full and ready to go. They will also keep you hydrated due to the heavy water and liquid content.
Green Smoothie Recipe
- 1 cup of organic green vegetable (ex. Spinach or bok choy)
- 1/2 of organic celery stick
- 1/4 cup of parsley
- 1/2 organic cucumber
- 1 peeled lemon
- 1/2-1 banana (depending how sweet you want it)
- 2 cups of water
