Problem of the Week-Decathlon's on

Hi guys this is the Problem of the Week for you to solve.
Solution
Current Points Earned
First 5 Events: 6.8 average
6.8 x 5= 34
Next 3 Events: 7.2 Average
7.2 x 3= 21.6
Total points Earned through 8 events= 21.6+34=55.6

Willy has earned 55.6 points in 8 events

Points left to Earn
75-55.6= 19.4
Willy has to earn 19.4 points through the last two events in order to have 75 points.
19.4/2=9.7

In order to have 75 points he must average 9.7 points, a near perfect, over the final 2 events.

Math Problem of the Week- Pushy Pushy

Hey guys here's another math problem for you guys to solve
Solution
Powerful-Riding Motor
Manny used the PRM for 90% of the time. This means we have to find 90% of 70 minutes, because it takes 70 minutes to cut the entire lawn using the PRM.
90% x 70= 63
So it took 63 minutes to cut 90% of the lawn.

Push Mower
Manny used the push mower to mow 10% of the lawn. It takes 5 hours or 300 minutes to mow the whole lawn using the push mower. So we need to find 10% of 300.
10% x 300= 30
It took 30 minutes to mow the last 10% of the lawn.

Total
63(90%)+30(10%)=93
It took Manny 93 minutes or 1 hour and 33 minutes to mow the entire lawn.

Math Problem

Once again we have to analyze the pattern. The number in the middle, is the product of the bottom two numbers being multiplied then added to the top number.
example: 3*7+1=22

8*5+3=43
the "?" is 43

Math Problem

Here's Another one to test your minds.

In this one we have to analyze the pattern. Each watch adds 42 minutes, from the previous times.
Therefore the watch with the "?" should be showing 5:19

Math Problem

I'm back this week with another Math Problem. View it below.

I can infer that since both sentences, have the same answer, it will most likely be consecutive numbers. Let's experiment with 1 2 and 3 because when added they equal 6, and when 2 and 3 are multiplied they equal 6, and 1 makes no difference to that.
1+2+3=6
1*2*3=6
the numbers 1 2 and 3 work

A=1
B=2
C=3
Z=6

Art review

Hi everyone, today I will be reviewing this piece of art. As you can see it is a picture of a sculpture of a Canadian soldier mounted on a rock and he is holding a cross that reads "Flanders Fields"

Review
This piece of art is by famous sculptor Emanuel Hanh (1881-1957). It was created by Hanh in 1921. Emmanuel Hanh is famous for his work on WWII. Mr.Hanh's work has graced many war memorials. Emanuel Hanh was also a coin designer.

I think most people saw this picture as the most boring of the three, because it was just a statue, while the others were filled with graffiti and interesting paintings. But I found this piece of art very intriguing. In the picture the soldier is holding a cross, which reads "in Flanders Fields" Which is obviously a reference towards the famous poem written about Flanders Fields. This memorial is located in Westville, British Columbia.

This statue was made to honour the sacrifices made by the noble soldiers who fought in World War I. It is made of Bronze, which was a very expensive material at the time. I think Hanh chose Bronze, instead of the usual marble or stone, is because he thought the soldier's sacrifices were worth the price.

That makes this memorial much more special because you realize that, this wasn't just another sculpture, Hanh put a lot of effort and heart into building this statue. Though Mr. Hanh is the creator of many different memorials, this is his only monument that is personally signed by him, which may send the message that this is personal favorite monument.

In Conclusion, Emanuel Hanh's famous Westville monument is a tremendous work of art and can never be replicated. The way in which Mr. Hanh exhibits his feelings, through the little things, like the material of the statue, portrays the bigger picture behind this. Some artists and critics have gone far enough to say that this is the best war monument in Canada. I think it's definitely up there.

Problem of the Week

Hi guys, today I'm back with another problem of the week. This one is titled "Tunnel Vision"

The first thing we need to do is convert the meters into km, because the question asks for km/h.
Train's length: 1000m=1km
Length of tunnel: 3000m=3km

Now the train's length is 1 km and the tunnels length is 3km

Now we have to subtract the train's length from the tunnel's length to determine how much kilometers there are still left to travel.
3km-1km= 2km
The train still has 2 km left to travel.

To find how long it takes the train to travel 1 km we must divide 30 by 2
30/2=15 which means that it take 15 seconds to travel 1 km.

Now we need to find the km/h
There are 3600 seconds in one hour, so we need to divide 3600/15 and multiply the quotient by 1km
3600/15=240
240*1km=240 km

The train travels 240 km/3600 s or 240 km/h

Going back to the original question, which was "Determine the speed of the train, in kilometres per hour. The train travels 240 km/h

Is Pollution a necessary Evil

Contrary to what others may believe, in my opinion to achieve the lifestyle we are living right now, not just one person but the human race as a whole, pollution is a necessary evil. The comfortable life we have right now, relies on electricity and energy. And in order to achieve energy quickly and efficiently, natural resources that produce pollution are used.

Our very existence relies on transportation, which includes cars and other vehicles. Without the fast transportation we have today people would have to wake up earlier to get to work on time, and that is not something they want to do. I know everyone wants us to use the bus and subways systems more often, but their main customer is students and low-wage workers. You don't often see someone with a six figure salary riding the bus.

Another way pollution is necessary, is for the growth of developing countries. when a country is trying to take the next the step in becoming a first-world country, the use of fossil fuels and other natural resources is necessary. The whole growth of China is based on cheap manufacturing and without the use of fossil fuels that is not possible. No large corporation is going to sacrifice their dirt cheap wholesale price, just to try to save China's environment. The consequence of that, is now the city of Beijing is dangerous to even breath in. Although some of the pollution is because of smokers, most of it come from manufacturing plants and factories.

The food we eat isn't pollution free either. When farmers are trying to produce crops, they apply many dangerous chemicals and pesticides to increase the growth of crops. These pesticides and insecticides damage the environment and can pollute the water systems. But we need food, so these sacrifices are made despite the consequences.

Many food items that we once thought of as pure, are now mass-produced and are full of sugar and other unnecessary ingredients that are harmful to the body.  An example of that is wheat. Wheat is the building block for many favourite foods such as: bread and pasta. But now wheat is not what it used to be, because of high demand and low supply.

People want things cheap and convenient so they don't have to get off their couch. People know the benefit of electric cars and using public transportation, but would rather buy a regular car, because of the price and the simplicity, and partly because their ego can't take the hit. No rich person is going to buy a hybrid just to save the environment. They're going to want a Mercedes or Audi, so they don't have to boast about their wealth, it's self explanatory.

In conclusion, I think that pollution is a necessary evil, especially if you want to achieve human
convenience.  Industries can cause a lot of pollution in our country and others, but it is all to achieve human convenience. If there was only one reason pollution was necessary, I'd say it is because of human development.

You must Love Baseball!

Today I will be solving this problem of the week. It is called, You must love Baseball!

Solution
The problem states that at least one fan from each group was absent. This means that, since there are 30 kids, the maximum number of students is 28. Also the maximum number of fans would be 21-1=20, and the maximum number of non-fans would be 9-1=8.

Over half the class was present so there was at least 16 students. Since 3/4 of the class that was here were baseball fans, the fraction of non-fans is 1/4.

What we need to do to find the answer to the problem, is look for all the numbers from 16 to 28 that is divisible by 4. Those numbers are 16,20,24, and 28. any one of those, or possibly all of them could fit the bill for this problem. I am going to solve all of them individually.

16
Number absent: 30-16=14
Number of fans: 3/4 *16=12
Number of non-fans:1/4*16=4

This solution is valid because it fulfills all of the items on the checklist displayed in the problem. 16 is a possible solution to this problem.

20
Number absent: 30-20=10
Number of fans: 3/4*20=15
Number of non-fans: 1/4*20=5

This is also a valid solution because it also follows the checklist displayed in the problem. 20 is a possible solution.

24
Number absent: 30-24=6
Number of fans: 3/4*24=18
Number of non-fans: 1/4*24=6

This is also a valid solution to the problem because it also follow the checklist displayed in the problem. 24 is a possible solution.

28
Number absent: 30-28=2
Number of fans:3/4*28=21
Number of non-fans:3/4*28=7

This is not a possible solution to the problem because, in the checklist it states that at least one person is absent from each group, but if 28 students were here and 3/4 of them were fans, there would be 21 fans, which means that no fan was absent, which makes 28, not a solution.

Conclusion
In conclusion, there is not enough information given in the problem to determine only one possible solution, that follows the following criteria: at least one fan and non-fan is absent, more than half the class was present and the probability of asking a baseball fan a question was 3/4. My conclusion is validated by the fact there are 3 possible solution to this problem. In order for their to have to be enough information, only one possible solution was supposed to arise. One piece of information Mr.Fann could have provided to eliminate 2 of the 3 solutions, is,"there was less than 15 fans present. This would eliminate 20 and 24, leaving 16 as the only possible solution. Post your own solution and one thing Mr.Fann could have added to eliminate 2 of the 3 solutions. in the comments section down below.

Green Smoothies

Green smoothies are the latest health trend that is catching fire across the western world. It is a healthier alternative compared to juices and soft drinks, that exceed our daily recommended sugar intake. I personally prefer red smoothies, but green ones are much healthier, this blog post will be based solely on the topic of green smoothies.

Description
There are many benefits in drinking green smoothies regularly or alternately. A smoothies is defined as a blend of raw fruits and/or vegetables which can include other ingredients such as ice, water and sweeteners. The reason a green smoothies is called a green smoothie, is because the main ingredients, consist of leafy green super food vegetables. These may be hard to eat individually, but when blended together create a somewhat pleasant taste. Green smoothies can be other colors but the leafy green vegetables they consist of should not be altered.

Benefits
As I previously stated there are a multitude of benefits in drinking a green smoothie. When you drink a green smoothie, you are basically drinking pure nutrition. A green smoothie is 99.9% healthy. The amount of vitamins you gain really depends on they type of ingredients you put in the smoothie. I personally prefer the spinach and apple blend. Most fruits and vegetables are, however, high in vitamin A and C. Smoothies also help you consume a lot of healthy ingredients without even realizing it.
Smoothies are a much better option than breakfast juices. When you extract juice many minerals can be lost from the original fruit, but when you make a smoothie you use the whole fruit so no vitamins or minerals are lost. Green smoothies are also a cheap and more natural alternative to multivitamins bought at the store. They are quick and easy to make, only needing a blender and pitcher if you want to store it.
If you're looking for a lasting source of energy a green smoothie will satisfy your needs. Fruits contain sugars so they only provide you with a short supply of energy, but when mixed with leafy green vegetables, balance the sugar content. They can even be a meal alternative for those in a rush. they will make you feel full and ready to go. They will also keep you hydrated due to the heavy water and liquid content.

Green Smoothie Recipe
  • 1 cup of organic green vegetable (ex. Spinach or bok choy)
  • 1/2 of organic celery stick

For the Love of the Game

I walk into the arena
familiar surroundings all around me
I lace 'em up
and walk out with a ball in my hand

The court looks the same
The bull in the middle
Puttin' up shots
Getting ready for the big game

The buzzer sounds
and so it begins
I'm ready to reset
I let one fly
Nothing but net

I can feel the hate
As I walk off to a win
I've been bound to a fate
That comes with sins

I don't play for the money
nor for the fame
I play for the love of the game
Every second matters,
Basketball

Magical Material By: Hassan Ibrahim
T'was the eve of Christmas
Not a spectacle of snow was to be seen
Oh what I wouldn't give to
Catch a whiff of the magical substance

I awoke with a start
Glancing towards the lancet
Dropping from the heavens themselves,
Handsomely illuminated by the winter sun,
Were tiny little snowflakes

The ecstatic feeling of bliss
Could not and would not be rivaled
Skies concealed
Snowflakes descending
On Christmas Day
